Great Try/i 2018

Adventure Learning...hiking through the Van Stadens Gorge, negotiating the steep gradients, hopping on your mountain bike and tackling narrow trails, gravel and sand. The next day, you don't just paddle any canoe. No! You've been skilled to paddle the F1 of water craft, a K1 or K2 down a wide river, often having to contend with tides and wind. Your friends are always there for you and you need them on the 3rd day when you wake up in the dark at 4am and hike for 5hrs on a lonely beach. When you finally make it, with your friends at your side, you feel successful, empowered, and triumphant. Now, imagine you are a twelve-year-old child taking part in these activities during your regular scheduled physical education class. You're now given the confidence.....to do just this.
The Great Try/i actively engages the children in authentic, mentally and physically challenging tasks.
Woodridge children work both independently and collaboratively to complete the 3 night/4 day journey, solve problems, and support one another as they are challenged to go outside of their comfort zones. It is here where the children begin to realise, THERE IS MORE IN THEM THAN THEY THOUGHT. (Kurt Hahn)
